Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB), branded and operating as Malaysia Airlines, is the flag carrier of Malaysia. MAB is owned entirely by the Malaysian Government, through the sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah Nasional. Founded in 1947 as Malayan Airways, the airline has now become a leading airline in the Southeast Asian aviation industry.

The airline operates primarily from its hubs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Malaysia Airlines maintains a strong presence within East and Southeast Asia, and on the Kangaroo Route between Australia and the UK. As a member of the oneworld airline alliance, Malaysia Airlines offers superior connectivity to 1,000 destinations, including 66 online and 292 codeshare destinations, in over 170 territories and has access to over 650 airport lounges worldwide.

With 76 aircraft in its fleet, its narrowbody fleet comprises solely of Boeing aircraft, and its widebody fleet comprises both Boeing and Airbus aircraft. 

Owing to its fleet modernization process, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is planning to induct 12 new aircraft in 2024, including its first Airbus 330-900 (A330neo), which is scheduled to arrive in Q3 2024. MAG is expecting to receive four of the new aircraft type this year, along with eight of the Boeing 737-8 aircraft to support its requirement for network growth.

The airline has won the World Travel Award 2022, Asia’s Leading Airline – Business Class, and the Phoenix award by Penton Media’s Air Transport World for being the world’s best airline-turnaround story in 2007. Malaysia Airlines has an IASA rating of Category 1, and the country complies with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
