Zambia Airways (ZN), the flag carrier of Zambia, has appointed AirlinePros International their General Sales Agent (GSA) in South Africa with immediate effect. The appointment will enable Zambia Airways to widen its footprint into one of the fastest growing aviation markets in Africa. AirlinePros will be responsible for the airline’s promotions, sales, publicity, and marketing through well-structured and coordinated activities towards sustainable success and growth.

Abiy Asrat Jiru, CEO, Zambia Airways

“The potential of Zambia to be an aviation hub in the region is huge,” said Abiy Asrat Jiru, CEO, Zambia Airways. “Our airline has an innovative staff and management who has done a great job of building the brand and contributing to the growth of the local aviation industry and related sectors. Today we are prepared to look beyond Zambia. AirlinePros has been working in South Africa for many years with unparalleled expertise and experience in the market. I am sure this will help us achieve our target of over 1.9 million passengers by 2028.”

The Lusaka-based airline, with its hub at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, flies to domestic destinations like Livingstone, Solwezi, and Ndola currently. From June 1, 2023, Zambia Airways will mark its regional debut with flights to Johannesburg; serving the sector will be a Boeing 737 in two-class configuration. The regional expansion is expected to act as drivers ensuring the growth of the region and accelerate national growth.

“By giving more flight options and making flying more affordable for VFR traffic Zambia Airways has created a new class of fliers,” said Maryvonne Palanduz, Regional Managing Director, AirlinePros Southern Africa. “The country is among the largest producers of copper in the world, and with its ease of doing business and a stable political climate there is substantial business traffic. Among its tourism wonders are its amazing natural wealth including the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven World Wonders. This is in addition to the 20 national parks and 34 game management areas.”

Zambia Airways plays a pivotal role in improving accessibility for tourists and in the transformation of Zambia into a business, tourism and transit hub. The addition of the inaugural regional route to South Africa will add to the expanding reach of ‘The new wings of Africa’.
